The following statement shows the whole of the different classes of works constructed by the department, either by direct grants or by subsidies to local bodies, during the last fifteen years (the votes for this purpose having been under the control of the Hon. the Minister of Mines), for the purpose of opening up the mineral belts throughout the colony, and also for the development of the mining industry: —
