Ordered, "That Standing Order No. 211 be suspended, and that a Goldfields and Mines Committee, consisting: of seventeen members, be appointed, to which shall be referred all matters relating to mining, and all Bills relating to mines; with power to call for persons and papers ; five to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. J. Petitioners pray that a sum of £267 4s. lid. may be granted to the Gisborne Mining Association as a subsidy of pound for pound alleged to have been promised to that association for prospecting in the said district. The Goldfields and Mines Committee have the honour to report that they have no recommendation to make. 27th July, 1899.

No. 86. —Petition of Peter Norbury. Petitioner prays that he may be reimbursed the expenses incurred in contesting ineffectually the payment of rent for a special claim, a moiety of which rent was repaid to him by the Government last year. The Goldfields and Mines Committee have the honour to report that they have no recommendation to make. 27th July, 1899.
