Wellington District. Porirua Asylum. —The additions to the male wing were completed in December last. A building for a dairy and a clerk's cottage have been completed. Contracts for a boiler, engine, and dynamo and accumulators have been let. The erection of coal-bunkers, small fire-station, workshop, and other minor works are in progress. Mount View Asylum. —A mortuary has been built, and the boiler-house, drying-closets, &c, completed. Steam disinfectors have been fitted up at Somes Island Quarantine-station. The police-station at Lower Hutt haß been altered and additions made, and a lock-up built at the Upper Hutt; and a petty contract for alterations, &c, at the Greytown Police-station has been completed. The transformation of the Mount Cook Gaol into a defence depot has been completed, and some drainage-work done. A new post-office, in brick, has been built at Eketahuna; and a post-office, in wood, has been built at Wereroa. The erection of a new post-office building has been begun at Alfredton. A fire-prevention service at the Terrace Gaol has been completed, and extensive renewals made in the flooring. In the Wairarapa Farmers' Buildings a large office was built for the Valuation Department and fitted up complete; also, an office for the Inspector of Fisheries, two offices for the use of the Nautical Assessors, and one for the Census Department. Some alterations and additions have been made to the Molesworth Street residence. A stable has been built at Tinakori West residence, and some alterations made. Some alterations and renovations have been done at the Tinakori East residence. Some minor alterations have been made in Government House, and fire-escapes fitted all round the house; the fence in Bowen Street has been repaired. A considerable amount of work was done in putting some new floors and forming a number of new rooms in Parliamentary Buildings; also in providing storage accommodation in the cellars and attics. Alterations have been made in the lobbies of the House and partitions removed, and a number of minor improvements have been made. Some work was also done in preparing the building for the Eoyal reception. Alterations have been made to the Stock Department premises in Sydney Street, and a poultryyard built at Pipitea. A process-printing shed has been built at Pipitea for the Public Works Department. Some alterations have been made in the telephone exchange. Alterations and renovations have been made in the rooms rented for the Tourist and Health Departments, and fittings, &c, supplied. Some renovations have been done in the Departmental Buildings, and a very large amount of work has been done in providing fittings of all kinds for all branches of the service. Marlborough District. Blenheim Departmental Buildings. —The only work done beyond minor repairs was painting the interior of the telegraph operating-room ; also repairing damage caused by the burning of a large hotel adjacent to the building. Improvements were made in the drainage of the Picton Courthouse and Picton Gaol, and also at Havelock Courthouse. Tenders have been invited for additions to the quarters at the Eenwicktown Post-office. A new pig-proof fence has been erected around the Wairau Native School reserve. Nelson District. Nelson. —A Gaoler's residence and a four-cell lock-up has been built at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court. Motueka. —The erection of a new brick post-and-telegraph office will shortly be completed. Wakapuaka. —The Cable Bay Station has been provided with an acetylene-gas installation, which has worked satisfactorily. CoUingwood. —A new Courthouse, with outbuildings, has been erected, and the grounds fenced. The maintenance of the public buildings in the district was attended to in all cases as required. West Coast Districts. Westport. —Contracts have been let for constables' quarters and additions to offices, Westport Police-station, also for repairs and gravelling; the work is now complete. The erection of a post-and-telegraph office at Denniston is being done by contract. Maintenance and minor works have been done under petty contracts for the following buildings : Police sergeant's residence, Westport; post-and-telegraph office, Lyell; police-station, Lyell; Courthouses, Charleston, Westport, and Lyell; residence, Clerk of Court, Lyell; the police-station and post-and-telegraph office, Charleston; District Surveyor's house, Westport; also drainage works, &c, post-and-telegraph office, Westport. Greymouth. —The Police Inspector's house has been altered and added to. The police quarters have been improved by raising the old prison above flood-level, and altering it into a married constable's residence ; altering one of the lock-ups into an office ; the stable was repaired and painted, the fencing repaired, and the office renovated. The Customhouse was repaired and painted. The Public Works office was repaired, and the exterior' painted. Alterations were made to the gas service in the Customhouse, and a new strong-room door and fittings provided. The Postmaster's residence has been repaired. Plans were prepared for alterations and additions to the post-office,
