Industrial Schools. Bttmham.—A seven-roomed house, and also a four-roomed house, have been erected. The large coppers in the main kitchen have been renewed, and a new range provided for the manager's house, and the fireplaces repaired. Special attention has been given to fire-escapes. Ten new 400-gallon tanks have been put in place, and additional pipes provided. A drying-room has been built, and new washing-boiler and tubs. The poultry-farm has been completed, and workshop erected by the attendants and inmates. Te Oranga Home. —Many improvements have been made ; the section has been fenced and subdivided ; a large dormitory has been added to the present building. The stable, fowl-house, and other outbuildings have been shifted to new positions, and the drain from the wash-house has been connected to a tank in the paddock temporarily. The ground has been cleared for the new wing about to be built. Girls' Receiving-home, Christchurch. —A house has been rented in Lichfield Street for this Home. It has been furnished and fitted and several improvements made. Miscellaneous. Sitmner Deaf-and-dumb Institute. —Three fire-escapes have been erected at the boys' dormitory. In the girls' dormitory two doors have been provided. Openings have been cut in the partitions between each room, the windows have been made to open outwards, and other improvements done. Sanatorium, Hanmer Springs. —The new buildings have been fitted and lighted with gas, new outbuildings have been provided, a septic tank built, and the drainage improved. Other minor works have been done. Magnetic. Observing - station, Christchurch. —A building is in course of erection in the Domain. Mobilisation Store, Christchurch. —A building is being erected in the drill-shed grounds for this purpose, and the work is well advanced. Otago District. Post- and Telegraph-offices. Roxburgh. —A contract for additions to the post-office has been completed. Shag Point. —A small post-office has been built. Clyde. —A contract for additions to the post-office was let and completed during the year. Dunedin. —A new storage-room has been constructed in the cellar, and new sorting-tables have been provided. Port Chalmers. —The living quarters in the post-office have been renovated by petty contract. Naseby. —A contract for the erection of a new post-office in brick, with Postmaster's quarters, has been completed. Roslyn. —Some renovations were made and fittings provided for the post-office building. Cromwell. —A contract for additions to the post-office has been completed. Caversham.—A contract for the erection of a new post-office is in progress. Police-stations. Bluff. —A new residence for the constable has been built, and small additions and repairs to the sergeant's house have been done. Queenstown. —A sergeant's residence has been built. Winton. —A petty contract for additions to the police quarters has been finished. Arrowtown. —A new police-station has been built by contract. Milton. —A contract for repairs to the police-station has been finished. Invercargill. — A new police-station was built by contract. Caversham. —New cells have been built. Lawrence. —A contract for additions to residence has been completed. Clinton. —A contract for the removal of the police-station has been completed. Mosgiel. — A petty contract for removing the station has been completed. Waikouaiti. —A contract for the erection of a new residence has been completed. Roxburgh. —A contract for erecting a new residence is in progress. Ophir. —A contract for additions to the police-station is still in progress. Outram. —A contract for the erection of a new police-station is in progress. Biverton. —A petty contract for the erection of a stable and repairs to the station has been completed. Courthouses. Hampden. —A new Courthouse has been built by contract. Oamaru. —The floor in the Court-room has been renewed and the building repaired, and new outbuildings erected. Gore. —A contract for the erection of a new Courthouse is in progress. Invercargill. —Furniture and fittings have been supplied, and linoleum laid on. the floors.. Lawrence. —A strong-room has been built. Outram. —A contract for the erection of a new Courthouse is in progress. Dunedin, —The contract for the erection of the law-courts is still in progress..
