Miscellaneous. Customhouse, Oamaru. —Eepairs to the building have been done by petty contract. A new Stock Inspector's house has been built by contract at Balclutha. Caversham Industrial School. —Some improvements have been made in the grounds, and some alterations done in the fire service. A sewing-room Vias been built in the Dunedin Gaol. Seacliff Asylum —-A contract for boiler-house for the electric-lighting plant is still in progress, and a contract for the electric lighting of the building is also in progress. A considerable amount of maintenance-work has been done in the district, and a number of fittings of all kinds made. VISIT OF THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF COENWALL. Auckland District. In Auckland City a triumphal arch in classic style, with a main span of 34 ft. wide and 25 ft. high, with two smaller arches over the footpaths, was erected at the Victoria Street crossing of Queen Street. It was decorated with flags, &c. A combined City and Government platform, 234 ft.- by 28 ft., was erected near the wharf, and an old-age pensioners' platform, 162 ft. by 15 ft., was erected in Princes Street. On the 11th of June the route of the procession from the wharf to Government House was roped off, and the side streets on the route to Potter's Paddock on the 12th. An octagonal pavilion was erected in Potter's Paddock to accommodate the Eoyal party during the review. The department buildings at Auckland, Thames, and Gisborne, and the post-offices at Auckland, Thames, Onehunga, and Gisborne, were illuminated on the nights of the 11th and 12th of June. Wellington. Three arches were erected—one in Lambton Quay in front of the Departmental Buildings, a Maori arch in Charlotte Street, and an arch at the entrance to Government House grounds. Stands were erected to accommodate 2,800 persons at various parts of the city, and the streets roped off along the route of the procession. Government House, Parliament Buildings, Departmental Buildings, Government Insurance Buildings, and the Printing Office were suitably decorated and illuminated. Christchurch. A flagstaff was erected at the Eoyal residence ; four new sentry-boxes were made, and floors provided in the sentries' tents; a stand to seat 600 persons was built in Victoria Square for the old-age pensioners ; a stand, was built in Hagley Park to seat 1,550 persons ; one mile of rope fencing was put up in the Park from the river to Eiccarton Eoad; a flagpole 36ft. high and seventy-five smaller flagpoles for field purposes were erected in the Park ; three miles of street-roping were put up ■along the route of the Royal procession, and 34 chains of post-and-rail fences, as street barricading, were put up ; also one hundred Venetian masts, with shields and flags, were put up along the route. Christ's College and three of the town schools were fitted up to accommodate the school and college cadets. Otago and Southland Districts. A large arch was built in the Octagon, Dunedin, with eighteeen flagpoles, provided with appropriate flags; a platform was built in the Octagon to seat 850 persons, and also a Royal pavilion; a platform to seat 400 persons was erected for the old-age pensioners. The Government buildings in Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Oamaru, Gore, and Invercargill were illuminated. Other Towns. The post-offices at New Plymouth, Hawera, Wanganui, Feilding, Palmerston North, Napier, and Masterton were suitably decorated and illuminated at night; also the public buildings at Blenheim, Nelson, Westport, Greymouth, and Hokitika. MARINE. East Cape Lighthouse was finished, and the light shown on 9th of August last. An approach-channel was cut to the Onehunga Wharf. The dredge had to leave the work aud return to Westport before all the work required was completed. A contract for the erection of new beacons on the north shore at Manukau Heads is in progress. A site has been selected for a lighthouse at Kahurangi Point; plans have been prepared, and a contract let for supply of material for the erection of a cast-iron tower. A contract for renewals and additions to the wharf at Karamea has been completed. The defective timbers in the old wharf at Okarito have been renewed, and the wharf has been extended into deeper water. Good progress has been made with the Sticking Point reclamation and face-wall. The quarantine-station buildings and grounds on Quail Island have been kept in order by prison and day labour. A contract for repairs to the wharf is in progress. A large amount of work has been done in renewals and improvements to the cabins, &c, of the s.s. "Tutanekai." Numerous plans and proposals for harbour and marine works in various places have been examined and reported on during the year.
