Referring again to your letter to me of the sth September, and my reply to you of the 6th September, I find thai Cabinet agreed aa t<> the price to be paid for the strip of land in question — namely, £652. If, therefore, your Council will pay this amount to the Receiver of Land Revenue, to the credit of the lion. T. K. Maodonald, the Commissioner of Crown Lands will lie instructed to issue a certificate <>f title direoi to him, instead of the more elaborate process of first issuing a certificate of title to your Council, and then your Council conveying to the Hun. Minister of Lands, regarding Application No. 1013 relating to the above section, I have to inform you that the Government lias no object ion lo the proposed issue of Hie title, as Cabinet decided mi the 30th May last to approve of a mutual arrangement between the Wellington City Council ami the Hon. T. Kennedy Maodonald, by which a portion of this section was to he acquired for street-widening purposes by the Council, in exchange for a portion of the adjoining Section 488. The issue of a title in this case appears to be the necessary preliminary to the portion desired by the Council being conveyed by Mr. Macdonald to them. Wμ. C. Kensington, Under-Secretary. T. K. Macdonald, and a request has been made for the early issue of the title. As. however, the Wellington Corporation has not yet deposited any application for the land,* I shall he obliged if you will please instruct me whether it should be required to do so, and also under what clause of the Land Act the title to the Hon.
