Rapaki Native Settlement. —Concrete tank built to store water, and filled. Public Works Section and Store, St. Asaph Street, Christchurch. —This section, with the two cottages on it, was bought. Bathroom and washhouse have been added to one cottage; gas laid into section ; large store built; workshops projected; plant and material moved here from Addington Store and workshops, Armagh Street. Dominion Day. —Decorations were displayed on the Post-office and Provincial Buildings on this day. West Coast Districts. Departmental Buildings. Hokitika. —Some furnishing done in Land Registrar's Office. New brick offices are being erected by contract; the brickwork is about one-quarter done. Courthouses. Greymouth. —The new brick building, with tower and bells, has been completed, and was formally opened by the Prime Minister on the 6th May, 1908. Repairs and renovations were made to the residence. Hokitika. —Some repairs are now in hand to the exterior; those to the floor and foundations have been finished. Ross. —Chimney built and drainage attended to. Bealey. —Repairs and painting carried out; lineman's house also attended to. Hospitals. Greymouth. —New wing and administrative block : A contract is now in progress for this, and there are only some painting, plumbing, and gas-fitting still to do. Hokitika. — Westland Hospital. —New ward : This was finished during the year. Hokitika Mental Hospital. —Material was supplied during the year for repairs to the building. Miscellaneous. Greymouth Public Works Office and Store. —Some repairs have been carried out. Greymouth Government, Insurance Office. —Linoleum laid on floors; repairs and renovations made. Otago District. Departmental buildings were duly kept in repair. Courthouses. Hampden. —The building was painted. Kaitangata. —A new building in wood was erected. Waikouaiti. —A new Courthouse was erected (in timber). Riverton. —Repairs carried out. Otautau. —New Courthouse in brick is being erected. Gaols. Invercargill. —A gaol building is being erected in concrete by prison labour ; doors, windowframes, and fittings are being obtained for it by contract. Oamaru. —Gaoler's residence : Bath and hot water put in. Clyde. —Repairs have been carried out.
