The following table gives details of repairs, &c, to cars during the year : —
Sixty-two new bogie carriages are under construction in Eailway Workshops. Brake-vans. —The number of brake-vans on Ist April. 1909, was 356, and the number on 31st March. 1910, was 367. Twelve new bTake-vans were built, comprising eleven bogie and one Fell van. One old brake-van was written off, and replaced with a bogie brake-van. The repairs, &c, to brake-vans were as follows : —
Eighteen new bogie brake-vans are under construction in Railway Workshops. Wagons. —-The wagon stock on Ist April, 1909, comprised 16,120 vehicles, and on 31st March, 191U, the number was 16,853. Two wagons were written of! : one was worn out, and the other destroyed through an accident ; both were replaced. Seven hundred and thirty-three wagons were built for ordinary traffic, and five wagons were built for Napier Harbour Board. The carrying-capacity of wagon stock was increased by 7,059 tons, equal to 5£ per cent., or an equivalent of 1,177 ordinary wagons. The following table gives particulars of repairs, &c, to wagon stock for year : —
One thousand two hundred and fifty-nine wagons are under construction, comprising 47 bogie and 1,212 four-wheel wagons. Tarpaulins. —The stock on Ist April, 1909, was 12,397 tarpaulins, and on 31st March, 1910, the number was 12,897 tarpaulins. Five hundred new tarpaulins were made and added to stock ; 1.890 worn-out tarpaulins were written off, and replaced with a similar number of new tarpaulins. The following table gives details of the work on tarpaulins for the year : —
There were 325 new tarpaulins in hand at close of year.
