In a public letter to the editor of the Lyttelton Times, Christchurch, New Zealand, I have offered to give one thousand pounds (£1,000) towards the Bickerton Fund, subject to certain conditions. This offer I now repeat to you, and shall be glad if you will kindly bring it under the notice of the Premier and your other colleagues. Briefly my offer is that I will give one thousand pounds (£1,000) towards the Bickerton Fund, such sum to be deducted from my claim against the New Zealand Government for five thousand pounds (£5,000), which your Government have had for some time under consideration. Kindly forward me the necessary order, and, if practical, I will sign the same and return to you immediate. In this case the Bickerton Committee will have a working capital of £2,000. Yours, &c, W. I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 26th ultimo asking for information as to the terms upon which the subsidy of £1 for £1 up to £300 will be paid to the Bickerton Association. In reply I have to inform you that the above-mentioned subsidy will be payable on any subscriptions or contributions actually received by the association for the purpose of assisting Professor Bickerton in bringing before the scientific world his theory of " partial impact."
