Sullivan, Minister of Industries & Commerce, Wellington. Dear Sir, — In accordance with your request, we have pleasure in submitting herewith our Report on the establishment of an Iron and Steel Industry in New Zealand. This Report embodies the results of our investigation into the reserves of coking coal and iron ore, our recommendation for the location of the proposed Iron and Steel Works, a summary of the estimated manufacturing costs and the earning power of these Works operating on the agreed programme of production, together with a brief reference to the effect of the establishment of the industry on the problems of employment, sterling reserves and national defence. We have every confidence in reporting to you that there are in New Zealand, the materials required for the proposed manufacturing programme for the desired period of seventy years, and that under present conditions, this production of steel can be established on a sound economic basis. Respectfully submitted, Yours faithfully, T. P. Colclough, Director, H. A. Brassert & Co., Limited
