SALES OF BUTTER AND CHEESE TO MARKETS OTHER THAN UNITED KINGDOM. During the 1937-38 season the Department has endeavoured to increase sales of butter and cheese in markets other than the United Kingdom, and the requirements of firms regularly trading in those markets continue to be supplied. This trade, though relatively small, is very widely spread. Apart from circumstances relating to impositions on imports into certain countries, over which the Department has no control, the year has seen a general increase in the quantities shipped to destinations other than the United Kingdom. The sales tabulated hereunder have been made direct from New Zealand, but in addition almost the same quantities of New Zealand butter and cheese have been shipped from the United Kingdom to countries which cannot be conveniently or regularly supplied from New Zealand. The destinations of these shipments from the United Kingdom are the Channel Islands, Malta, Gibraltar, Egypt, Newfoundland, British West Indies, British Guiana, and South Africa.
