No. 24. —Petition of Perene H. Tukariri and 104 Others, of Mangonui. Praying that the question of surplus lands and Tangonge Lake be reopened. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. The Committee recommends that a Commission of inquiry be set up to deal with all pending petitions relating to surplus lands in the North Auckland District. 14th September, 1939.

Native Purposes Bill. The Native Affairs Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same and taken evidence thereon, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed with amendments as shown on a copy of the Bill annexed hereto. 20th September, 1939.

No. 56/1937. —Petition of Morere Wfiatitirt and 74 Others, of Moturoa. Praying for a restoration of their right to the canoe landing-place at Te Tutu, and other relief. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that, in so far as this petition refers to the Tutu Reserve, it should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration : the Committee has no recommendation to make with regard to the remainder of the petition. 21st September, 1939.
