SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES, 1943-44

STATE COAL-MINES ACCOUNT

(a) £25,500 provided on main estimates. Additional sum required to cover salaries of staff attached to the Dobson and Wallsend Collieries, and extra staff required to cope with increased activities. (b) £350 provided on main estimates. Insufficient provision made on main estimates and subsequent acquisition of two collieries. , (c) £3,000 provided on main estimates. Insufficient provision made on main estimates and subsequent, acquisition ol two collieries. (d) £4,000 provided on main estimates. Additional sum required lor construction of a septic tank, lilter, and pump room in connection with the drainage and sewerage system. (e) On main estimates the following amounts provided : Blackball, £50,000 ; James, £9,000 ; Liverpool, £190,000 , Strongman, £125,000. Insufficient provision made on main estimates and additional provision necessary for increased wages to meet anticipated increase in output. (/) Provision for grant to local body for loss of revenue from rates, resulting from acquisition of the Dobson and Wallsend Collieries. _ , (g) £45,000 provided on main estimates. Additional houses required at Bennydale to accommodate men working m the Mangapehi Mine. {h) £1,250 provided on main estimates. Additional amount required to finance the purchase of two buses. (i) A new car is required at Mangapehi for the District Manager of the North Island State Mines. (j) A truck is needed to replace the existing one at Mangapehi. (/c) A truck is needed for delivery of coal at the Christchurch State Coal Depot. (I) Two additional trucks required for the purpose of speeding up deliveries from Wellington Depot.
