(b) Government Primary Schools
Distribution of Primary Schools and Pupils
The number of schools represents an increase of three over the 1947-48 period. This is made up as follows : Six new schools were opened. One village school was amalgamated with another to form a district school. One school failed to function owing to dissension among the village people. One of the two model schools attached to the Teachers' Training Oollege was closed in the interests of greater efficiency. Note.—(l) The figures given above include all the primary (or Grade II) Schools —i.e., all village schools, Malifa School, and the model school. They do not include the three middle primary schools. (2) The number of teachers refers to the Samoa staff only, and the European teachers in Malifa and the Teachers' Training College have not been included. 3—A 4
