DAIRYING DIPLOMAS
CONCESSIONS TO BE MADE. Important deeisions aft'ecting dairy factoi'y managers and others were made at a conrerence in Wellington of representntives of the Massey Agricultural College and the New Zealand Dairy Factory Jlanagers' Association. The cfinference was called at the request of the association, to cousider the conditions under which examinations for the diploma of associate in dairy manufncture are conductecl, with particular reference to the granting of concessions to those who have had long experience in the industry. The Massey College representntives were Mr A. Merton (cliairnian), and Professors W. Ricldet and T. Hunter, and Messrs R. W. D. Robertson and G. Finn, of the Advisory Council of the association, and Messrs E. Fergusson, C. McQueen, P. Petersen, J. Murray, and J. Middleton represented the association. After a full discussion it was agreecl : — (1) That the diploma course as sct out in the college calendar be approved; (2) fliat the standard of the diploma sliould not be lowered in the granting of concessions, and that oli candidates for the diploma must pass the examinations as presented ; (?) (a) that the college council be reperience of a comprehessive character liave had not less than five years' excommended to allow candidates who perience of a comprehensive character liave had not less than five j-ears' ex i u. dairy factory work, including at least one year as either factory manager or first assistant, to sit for the examination after instruction at Massey College for about four weeks in each of two years in the cast of factory managers, and about six weeks in eacE year for first assistants ; (b) that a committee consistiug of two lepresentatives of tho college council and two of the association be set up, to detei'mine what applicants have qualified for the concession, all applieations" for this concession to be made to the registrar of JMassey College and that no application be acoepted later than Decemher 31, 1929; (c) that this concession remain in force onlv during the years 1930, 1931. and 1932 ; (4) that the college council be veeommended to ask the National Dairy Association to bring this concession to the notice of all factory directors in the Dominion, with the request that facilities sliould he afforded the men concerned to take advantage of the concession ; and that the council further l-equest the associations to urge that facilities be given to the younger men to attend the full diploma opurse at Massey Agricultural College.
