DR. J. W. McILRAITH FAREWELLED. W-YXTED SOMETHING DONE.
Rotarian J. W. Mcllraith, one of the keenest and most popular members of the Napier Rotary Club, who is leaving Napier at the end of the week, to take over the position of chief inspector of schools at Wellington, was farewelled by his fellow J'otarinns at the usual weekly lunclieon of the Napier Rotary Club this afternoon. Rotarian President T. II. Ringlanu, in a few well-chosen words, voiccd the regret of Napier Rotarians at Dr. hlcllraith's dcparture and on their behalf bade liim an revoir, :.t the same time congratulating liim upon his advance- j ment. During his poriod of memhersliip, lie had heen a tower of strength J to the club and his splendid addresses from time to time, given in lhs illuminating style. were a pleasure to listen to. I11 eonclusion. tlie Rotarian president voiced the cordial good wislies of Napier Rotarians for many vears of health and liappiness to the departing Rotarian. _ j In reply, Rotarian Mellraitli ex- j pressed his regret at leaving Napier , and the Napier Rotary Club. with the j manv happy times he had spcnt tliere. j He felt that if liefore he had left ihe 1 vexed questions of the liarbour, tho J rivers and about 10 or 11 others had I been settled lie conld liave left with j a moro contented mind, but unfortunntely they wero still far from settled. (Langhter). Tho speaker went on to refer to education, stating that he liopcd the subjoct of tlie education of Ihe young would always lie hcfore Rotarians. Times were clianging, the world was hccoming a large place aiul corrrspoiid(ng clianges were taking place in erlueation sy.stems, whieh wero of fnndamental importanee. Ile reminded his listeners in eonclusion that if tlie children did not get a glimpse of the vision splendid at school they would nover get it in tho later years of their life. Rotarian AIcTlraith was cheercd at the eonclusion of his rcplv and accordcd mnsical lionours by tho Rotarians present.
