ESKDALE CRICKET
EINAL MATCH OF SEASON. KEEN COUNTRY PLAYERS. A very enjoyable cricket match was plaved in Eskdale last Saturday between the Eskdale team and a teain from Sherenden. The latter eleven is a eombination tliat lias been only latterlv forrned, and, judging from its showing, there is every prospect qf it developing into formidable opposition lo" country teams next year^ The Eskdale batsmen aggregated 65 runs in tlie first innings, Smith and Coclcerill reacliing double figures. For Sherenden, Axbey and Boyd bowled particularly well, their _averages being respectively four for 15 and four for 14. Tlie visitors compiled 57 runs in their innings. The most successfnl bowlers for Eskdale were Aymes, five for 25 and Cockerill four for 10 Tliis match marks tlie close of the Eskdale cricket season. During the Summer moiiths many very interesting and enjoyable games liave been plaved. The enthusiasm of country cricketers is evidenced by the fact that some of the competition matches involve travelling as far as Tutira, the return journey being a distance of nearly 60 miles.
