MARKETING OF PIGS

NEW ZEALAND ASSOOIATION. The New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing 'Association reiiorts that the porker pools number two to five, have now been finalised, and the realisations ai-e insufficignt to warrant the payment of a further bonus. A final payment of ^d per lb will be made oq. all porkers in the sixth and seventli pools and an immediate final payment of id per lb on porkers in the eighth pool will make the total advance 4-Jd per lb. Baconers in the eighth pool are subject to an interim payment of ld per lb. The policy of holding over porkers during the Autumn and shipping them to London to meet the early market jjroved costly last season, owing to the mildness of the English early Winter and the heavy shrinkage in' weights while the carcases were in cold storage. Practically the. whole of the season's pigs, both porkers and baconers, have been disposed of, so that the repetition of last year's experience is definitely prevented. Reports received from London by cablegram indicate a rapid liardening in baconer prices. Although the total number of pigs handled to date thi3 season is well in excess of the number handled during the whole of the last season, large orders had to be turned down owing to the lack of carcases.
