RUGBY BEGINS
■ ■■■ CHAMPION SHIP COMPETITIONS open: EASY WINS FOR PIRATES AND H.S.O.B. CLOSER HASTINGS GAMES. Championship competitions under the auspices of the Hawke's Bay Rugby Union opened in Napier and Hastings on Saturday. Eight senior teams were in the field and all showed creditable form for the first run out. Despite the counter attraction of the Hastings races goodly gatherings of spectators watched the matches. In the games played in Napier, Pirates, last season's title-holders, had a fairlv conifortable win over T.C.O.B., winning by 17 points to nil. H.S.O.B. heavily defcated il.B.O.B., winning by 31 points to 3. At Hastings the games were more closelv fought. Hastings, meeting the new senior team. Hastings H.S.O.B.. won hy 18 points to 9 after a good match. and on the other ground M.A.C. and Celtic played an exciting 6-all draw. - Junior and lower grade games will open next Saturday. after the territorials return from the military camp now in progress in Wninuknran. Eifth grade games schedided to be played" in Napier on Saturday were postponed for a week. Tn a friendlv third grade match on the TTieh School ground. High School and H.S.O.B. played a draw, the score heing six-all.
