A NARROW WIN
H.S.O.B. GET HOME BY TWO POINTS. T.C.O.B. BEATEN BY 5 TO 3. H.S.O.B. had a hard tussle with T.C.O.B. on McLean Park, Napier, ultimately winning by the narrow margin of two points. Both sides scored a try, but H.S.O.B. converted theirs, finaliy winning by five points to three. The game was not very interesting t.ntil the final stages were approached, when H.S.O.B. roused the few spectators on the new stand by makmg great- effovts to secure the lead. H.S.O.B. played with the sun, and Tech. quickly went to the attack, Elliott narrowly missing a shot at goal from the field. Tech. kept up the pressure, and when the game liad been in progress only three minutes they scored, Austin, Brodie and Evans liandling in a loose rush, the last-named diving in at the corner. Manning missed the kick. Tech., despite the fact that they were outweiglied in the forwards, were having the best of the plav, and the game was in the White lialf. Facing tlie sun in tiie second spell, Old Boys went off at top speed. H.S.O.B. were now making great attempts to even up and succeeded about a quarter of an hour from time. In u sweeping movement up field Holt secured tlie ball apd cut into the crowd of players near the line. He lost the ball and tbe movement threatened to collapse when the five-eighths secured again. He dived through the pack and passed to Pratt, who ran over near the posts. With the result of the game depending on his kick Bradley hoisted a nice goal. With the scores so close and some time still to go, both sides, cheered on by their respective bands of supporters, made great efforts to score again, and the game, which had previously been wearyinglv dull, now became very exciting. H.S.O.B. were now pressing heavily, play being alinost cnntinually in the Gre.y lialf of Ihe field. Tech., liowever. kept tliem out and in the last few minutes took a turn on the attack. They sw-ept the ball down to tbe Whito encl. and made valiant efforts to recover the lead. The cloek beat thein, however, and time sounded with the score still H.S.O.B 5 T.C.O.B 3 Mr J. Miller was in charge of the whistle.
