ACROSS THE COUNTRY
HASTINGS. HIGH SCHOOL. ANNUAL STEEPLECHASE EVENT. Yesterday afternoon, the Hastings High School held its annual steeple ciiase event over a course of practically siy miles. The race was run for the hcr.onr of the varions houses and ivas keenly contested, although the weather conditions upset any chance of record breaking runs. Tlie day was a triuiiiph Fcr green house, the placed men in botli events all hailing from that house. In the senior event, the ultimate place getters were alwa.vs in a handy position, taking the lead afiout a mile from home. The final spurt brought quite a good race between Apsey, Pntrick and Sharpley. Tn the junior event, Pratt major, iumpcd away from tlie stnrt and soon had a big lead. At the Maraekakaho road, several others joined him, but he soon shook them off, and tlien romped home with a margin about 400 yards. Tliere was an exciting struggle for second place. The results were as follows: — Senior championship. — Apsey 1, Patrick 2, Sharpley 3 (all green liouse). Junior championship. — Pratt maj'or 1, Doole 2, Pratt minor 3. (All green house). Senior house championship. — Green 1, Blue 2, Purple 3. Junior house championship. — Green 1. Blue 2, Purple 3. Sealed hnndicap. — Heenan 4.}min., blue house 1, Murray 3min., green house 2, Apsey scr., green house 3.
