HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS. * MATTERS OF INTEREST. 1 - % Tlie usual fortnightlv meeting of the Hastings Borough Council was held last night, tliere being present, tlie Mayor, Mr G. F. Roach, Crs. R. Henderson, P. M.- Cobr .P. Loach, C. H. Slater, W. J. Lyon, G. W. B. McCormick, T. Donovan, R. Baker and J. Simmons. RATES ON GOVERNMENT GARAGE. The Railway Department wrote agreeing to tlie payment of. rates (w-i(hout prejudice to the rights of tlie department), on the railway 'bus garage at Hastings. — Received. HOSPITAL ENTRANCE. In regard to the tar-sealing of the entrance to the Hastings Memorial Hospital, the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board wrote asking if the council would be prepared to undertake this work, and for an estimate of tlie cost. The council expressed its agreement to do tlie work under the usual terms. IIOTEL INSPECTIONS. The Department of Health wrote requesting that the borough inspector skoukl carry out all inspections at the hotels under "The Health Act," particularly the kitcliens, dining-rooms, and food storage departments, and make the necessary reports tliereon. It was deeided that the council agfee to the department's request. USE OF PARKING AREAS. In regard to the use of parking areas by motor garages, it was deeided that the following provision be made in the bv-laws : — "No person shall make use of any parking place for the purpose of exliibiting or storing any car for sale, repair or skow." FARM LANDS RATING. The Feilding Borough Council forwarded the following resolution tor support : — "That this coyncil communicate with the member of Parliament for the district, askmg tliat.he request the Government to defer further consideration of the Urban Farm-' Lands Rating Bill for twelve months, to enable it to be fully considered by municipalities generally, and by tlie Municipal Association in particular, and tliat a copy of this resolution be fonvarded to all municipalities in New Zealand, asking tliat they, if in favour witlx the suggestion, take similar action." — To he supported.
