MR. MARTIN H. B. PRIEST.
| Jt was with deep regret that many I residents of Hawke's Uav learned oi the death of Mr 31artin H. B. Priest, which occurred at Havelock North on Saturday. The late 31r Priost was oue of Hawke's Bav's earJv jironeers and was well known throughout the province. Born in the Shetland Islands ui j 1856. he caine to New Zealand in 1S~8 j in the "Citv of Auckland," the vessel which was later wrecked on the Otaki beach. A few years later, Mr Priost came to Hawke's Bay and opened vp l a store at 3fakaretu. Subseqnently he renioved to Hatuma and then to Elsthorpe where he engaged in farming for a number of years. About ten years ago lie retired and took up his residence in Havelock North, where ha was held in the highest esteem. o mourn his death he leaves four sons and two daughters, to whom the tleep1 est sympathy will be extended. The daughters are 31rs Ptevenson, Faredale. Waipawa, and 3fiss C. Priest. Havelock North, and tlie sons, 31essrs Thomas Priest, Elsthorpe, 3fartin Priest. New Plymouth. Poter Priest, Hastings and Jim Priest, New Plymouth.
