LAMB AND PORK UP IN PRICE.
The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board has received the following cable from its London office, dated 20th December, advising Smithfield delivered prices averaged for week ending that date, with any movements on the week shown in parentheses:—
New Zealand wethers and maidens: Canterbury quality, selected brands, 56/ under, 6 5-8 d (up l-8d); 57/6*, C 3-8 d (up
l-8d); 65/72, 6 l-8d (up l-8d); other brands, 56/ under, 6 3-8 d (up 1-Sd); 57/64, 6%d (up l-8d); 65/72, 6d (up 1-Sd). New Zealand ewes: 64/ under, 4 5-8 d (up l-8d). New Zealand lambs: Canterbury quality, 36/ under, 89id; 37/42, 8d; 43/50, 7%d (up l-8d); selected brands and seconds, not quoted; other brands, not quoted. Australian lambs (new season's): Victorian, first quality, 36/ under, 8 l-8d (up l-8d); 37/42, 7 7-Sd (up_ 1-Sd). Argentine lambs (new season's), first quality, 36/ under, 7y 2 d; 37/42, 7%d. New Zealand beef, not quoted. Argentine chilled beef: Ox fores, 5 3-8 d; ox hinds, B%d (up 3-8 d). Australian frozen beef: Ox crops over 1001b, sd; ox hinds over 1601b, (r 5-8 d (up l-8d). New Zealand frozen pork: Porkers, 60/801b, .109 id (up %d); 81/991b, IOHd (up %d); 100/1201b, 9%d; baconers, 121/ 1801b, B%d. Frozen veal, not quoted. Lambs: Market is steady, but small interest owing 'to Christmas demand poultry and other meat. Mutton: Wethers and ewes firm with better prices. Beef: Good demand for all frozen beef. New Zealand porker_ pigs: Market very firm. All stocks going into consumption on arrival. New Zealand baconer pigs: Nominal prices. Stocks are exhausted.
