DAUDET THE DRAMATIC.
RESPONDS TO HUMAN APPEAL UNWILLING TO SPILL BLOOD (Aust. and N.Z. Cable). Paris, June 13. The surrender of Leon Daudct was most dramatic. A procession ot motor ears drove through the police cordon. M. Chiappe, the new prefect of police, stepped up and shouted: 1 ■want to speak to Daudct. Whereupon the Royalist leader appeared on the balcony, haggard and intensely fatigued. Chiappe said: Daudct, [ am speaking, to you as a man to a man. You must surrender, as the blood you limy spill will not bring hack life to your hoy. For a few moments both faced each other. Hundreds of onlookers hurst into tears. Daudod replied: Monsieur Prefect, you have used human language. I know the forces behind me do not wish to cause bloodshed or to cause civil war. T surrender.
