NEW YEAR GREETINGS.
STATESMEN TALK. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright Paris, Jan. 2. The Czar, in his own and the Czarina’s names, sending New Year greetings to France, expressed the best wishes to France and M. Loubet. He added : “ Amongst the pleasantest memories of the year, the visit to that beautiful country, our friend and ally, is particularly dear to us.” Loubet sent an appreciative reply. Loubet lator onheldareeeption of foreign diplomats. Tho Papal Nunico, as senior diplomat, praised France’s lofty ideal throughout the Chinese crisis. M. Loubet, in returning thanks, said that the outlook was one of general agreement among the Powers, and some were strengthening the ties of alliance and friendship. General Andre, the French Minister of War, and General Kuropahine, Russian Minister of War, exchanged greetings. M. Barrere, an Italian Minister in France, in the course of an official reception at tho Italian Embassy, said there was no longer any Mediterranean question between France and Italy. He predicted a fruitful era of mutual fraternity and peace.
