MUTINOUS STUDENTS
By Tolegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. An extraordinary incident has occurred at Lincoln Agricultural College. The total number of students, 22, has been suddenly reduced by 10. Eight of these allege that they were requested to leavo tho College by the dirootor for having refused to obey his orders, the other two having left in anticipation of receiving similar notice. It is stated that it is customary for tho students to have a halfholiday on Saturdays, but when, owing to the exigencies of the season this half holiday cannot be given on Saturdays, it is usual to give a holiday some other afternoon. Lately they havo been very busy harvesting. Lust Saturday the ten students who have left the College were requested to continue to work during the afternoon, but refused as the director would not promise to give them a holiday on another afternoon. In consequence of this refusal the director told tho eight students that they must eithor do the work or leave, and the other two left, anticipating they would be asked to do so. Later. —With regard to the Lincoln College incident the directors mot to-day and uphold the action of the director in deoiding that insubordinate students would not bo allowed to return unless they apologised for their action. The insubordination arose through tho students demanding a weekly half-holiduy during harvest which tho directors refused to allow. The students then took the matter in thoir own hands and refused to work on the half-holiday. Ten of the students were therefore rusticated.
