The Agent-General cables under date London, May 30th :—“ Mutton market depressed ; average price to-day : Canterbury, 3gd per lb ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Company, 31d ; other North Island brands, 3jjd ; Biver Plate B{j-d. Biver Plate reduced .[d this week. Thoro is a better tone on the lamb market this week. Tho average price today for New Zealand lamb is : Canterbury brand 4jd. Brands other than Canterbury 44d. Tho beef market is quiet. Stocks of New Zealand on hand are light and quotations are nominal; hindquarters 4f;d, fores 3 : ' t d. The butter market is dull at 95s per cwt, Danish 975. The cheese market is steady at 66s per cwt, new Canadian 60s. The hemp market is quieter ; good, fair Wellington grade on spot is worth £35 ; May shipment, £32 10s ; October and December shipments, .£3O. Buyers are not keen to do business in cocksfoot seed, and holders are firm. Tho average price to-day was : Bright, clean New Zealand, weighing 171 b per bushel on spot nominally 45s per cwt.”
