LAND BOARD

The quarterly meeting of the Hawke's Bay Land Board was held yesterday at 10 a.tn., when there were present: The Commissioner of Crown Lands (in the ohair), Messrs Geo. Mattbewson, B. B. Groom, and T. Hyde. The following correspondence was considered : . From Messrs Boke Bros., requesting that fee on new lease be not charged.—lt was deoided that the lease be given free of oharge, and that registration be optional. From W. F. Hale, requesting that the lessee of Block VI., town of Buckley, be compelled to occupy the land in a bona fide manner.—Tbe letter was received, but no action taken. From W. F. Hale, requesting that all municipal reserves in the town of Buckley be offered for lease for a term of 31 years ; that all unsold lands in the suburbs of Buckley be offered for selection under the optional system, and that all unsold sections in Block 1., town of Buckley-be offered for sale.—BecSived, but it was deoided not to take action in the matter. From W. F. Hale, applying to exohange perpetual lease of Sections 1,2, and 3, town of Buckley, for a lease in perpetuity. —Approved. From G. F. Powell, complaining that Paraoroa No. 1, of 311 acres, has been disposed of without ballot.—lt was decided that Mr Powell be informed that the Land Purchase Board exchanged the land under the Land for Settlement Act, and that the Board had no jurisdiction. The following local bodies’ proposals were approved of: Arai Boad Board JE34 17s 7d, Patutahi Boad Board £2 7s Bd. The District Surveyor roported on noxious weeds on reserves and Crown lands at Tiniroto.—lt was decided to obtain an estimate as to the cost to rid the sections of noxious weeds, and to ask the Government to place a sum on the estimates for that purpose. The Crown Lands Banger reported on two holdings in Ngatapa, and on two small grazing runs in Hangaroa Survey Districts.—Deceived. Mr W. F. Ludlow applied for 400 acres in block 111., Urutawa East Survey District, for cash.—Declined, sections only to be selected in manner shown on lithographs. The following transfers were approved : W. E. Gudgeon to H. W. Gudgeon, sec. 3, block V., Waiapu S.D.; G. Brocklebank to J. Habgood, Pouparae settlement. Messrs Dunstan and McGaveston,.two

Willows settlers, waited on the Board and asked that the drain through Mclntosh’s

property be deepened. There were about eleven chains, and it was necessary to take it away from the culvert.—lt was decided to recommend the Road Department to expend any balance of the drainage vote to give them relief. Mr O’Grady, section 1, Willows, waited on the Board and asked for assistance to orect a wiudmill for his well. If the Board gave him £2O he would put up a windmill. The Commissioner stated, that the Government would assist if the settlers or local body contributed, but they would not agree.—Mr A. Knox stated that other settlers had to sink wells on their sections. It had cost him £2o.—The Board decided that nothing could be done unless the settlers or local body took it up. Mr A. Knox asked for assistance for a small outlet drain on his section.—lt was decided that the Roads Department be recommended to make a grant if anything was left of the drainage vote. block 1, Waipukurau, Argyll Settlement ; B. L. Mitchell, eection 3, block 1, Waipukurau, Argyll Settlement ; E. Oakenfull, section 1, block XIII, Marackakahu, Argyll Settlement; I. E. Oakenfull, section 40, block XIII, Maraekakabu, Argyll Settlement ; E. Sairrott, section 35. block XIII, Maraekakahu, Argyll Settlement.
