A charge was made against William Dixon yostorday mornrng in the Police Court that ho did not on August 31,; attempt to oxtort tho sum of £4 5s .rom John Campbell GreDling. No explanation of tho charge was made, as the police desired and obtained a remand til. MonAt a meoting of tho Hospital yesterday a tolegram was read from Dr McGregor, Chief Inspector ef Hospitals, stating that as tho Auditor General would not pass a voucher for £3OOO advance against a suosidy which was promised to the Board ,by the Government, tho Board would iiavo to await payment of subsidy in tho usual way. The action of the Government in breaking its promise, as it was termed, was strongly condomned, but it was stated that the Board would be ablo to do without the advance.
