AUCKLAND NEWS.

ANGLICAN SYNOD. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, last night. At tho Anglican Synod to-day Canon Mac Murray submitted a report from the committee appointed to consider what steps should be taken for the reorganisation of the Church’s work among the Maoris. It was resolved : “ That, the time has arrived when the General Synod should assume entire control of the Maori missions and the responsibility for maintenance ”; “ That the Mission Board should consist of all the bishops of the Church of New Zealand, and one priest and one layman from each diocese, the first appointments to be made by the General Synod, and all subsequent appointments to be made by the Dioeeasn Synods ”; “ That the Mission Board should appoint an Executive Committee, consisting of two bishops, two priestß, and two laymen, a general secretary, and a general treasurer”; “That the Mission Board should ascertain the sum needod for the support of missions, and that this sum should be'apportioned amongst the dioceses of New Zealand by the General Synod.” Mr J. H. Upton introduced the report of the sub committee on secondary education for girls, which stated that resolutions had been passed approving of tho desirability of carrying out the scheme outlined by the Bishop in his charge, and urging that a Church of England Diocesan Schools Association be formed for the purpose of establishing a Diocesan, High School for Girls, and that the capita} of the Association shall be £SOOO.

CUSTOMS DUTIES. The Customs returns for Auckland for October show a total of £65,231, an increase of £17,606 over October, 1902. Beer duty amounted to £1598, an increase of £47. EXPOBTS. The export of gold during the past month whs 20,6240 z 12dwt, valued at £76,225, an increase of £18,606. The silver exported shows a decrease, the figures being: October, 1903, 59,9070 z sdwt, value £6117; October, 1902, 82,14302, value £8290. Increases are shown in both butter and efieese exports .
