About three months ago the Railway Department, in order to expedite quarrying work in collection with the Auckland-Penrose duplication, erected a steam rock drill, which ln.s ben doing excellent work. The mi n who formerly did hand-drilling were put on navvying. The feed screw of the drill is now missing, and it will be some days before it can l:e replaced. It has been stated that there has been dissatisfaction among the men affected,' and a covert threat was made that if the .use of the drill continued means would bo found to render it useless.
