SOUTH ISLAND TELEGRAPHS.

TEMPORARY REPAIRS EFFECTED. [Press Assijciation.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 13. With respect to tlie telegraph lines interrupted northward of Waiau, temporary- repairs have been carried out, but it will be some three weeks before the lines aie permanently restored. Great credit is due to Mr. R. Obcry, lineman at Waiau, for the exertions made by • him to restore communication during the recent very severe weather. He managed to get two wires through as far as the Conway, though there were no fewer than one hundred breaks in 17 miles, owing to the heavy falls of snow. For two days he worked incessantly, though wet through all the time, and having but little food. The snowfall was exceedingly heavy.
