HOCKEY.

The weather yesterday morning did not look very propitious for tlie hockey matches, and it seemed as if all matches would have to bo postponed, but it was fortunate they were not, as the weather cleared beautifully in tho afternoon, and there was every propect of good games, although the ground was rather wet.

WEST END 3 v. CITY 1. These teams were the first to take the field, and it was a foregone conclusion that AVost End would win, although City, who were playing short, put up a good fight. West End did not want to miss any chances, and were successful in placing three goals to their credit, Hooper, Roderick, and Payne each being responsible for one. City did nob allow them to have it all their own way, and from a good rush Gririlinton took the hall into the circle and scored. Air. Garrett refereed.

KIA KAHA 5 v. TE RAU 1. Although Kia Kaha put up a good score it was a very evenly-contested game, and in the first spell especially was very interesting and exciting, as is shown from tlio fact that neither side were successful in getting a goal. In tho second spell, however, tlio Kias rallied thoir forces, and ill spite of the good defence of Brou n, Hakiwai. and Fox, five goals were registered to their credit in a short space of time. Bright (2), Grant, Coleman, arid Grieve were the scorers. Pine scored the only goal for Te Ran, and although Cockerill, Brown, and llewai took tlio "’ball repeatedly into the Kia’s twenty-five, Garrett, AlcLean, and Pottie were very solid in defence, and each time got the ball out of dangerous territory. Air. Martin controlled the game.
