ANOTHER DARING THEFT.

/ A SAIAIIT ARREST. .Still another daring theft in the /Tistrict was reported' to tho police yesterday afternoon. Alatawhero was tho scene of tho outrage on this occasion, and the particular spot was the residence of Air. W. F. Stephenson. The house was practicalte empty, Airs. Grayson boing the only occupant. A man was observed going round tho house, hut it was not until 5 p.m. that Airs'. Grayson discovered that some of the rooms had been ransacked. An examination showed that three purses were missing,' and ■also that two meat safes had received the attention of the intruder. The purses were later on discovered in an outhouse on tho premises, their contents having been abstracted. The affair was promptly reported to the police by means of the telephone, and a description of the intruder was given. Fortunately the police obtained a clue to the identity of the thief from the description, and Sergt. Hutton, Detective Rawle, and Constable Davy arrested the suspect at. the wharf, with a ticket for Napier in his possession, just prior the Tuatea, leaving at 7 o’clock. The arrested man will be brought before the S.AI. at the Police Court this morning.
