THE FROZEN AIEAT AIARKET. AVriting under date, London, August 28, Alessrs. AA’eddel and Co. report as follows:—There has been no activity in any department of the frozen meat trade, and the maintenance ol' prices is the result of moderate supplies. The feature of tho trade continues to bo the high price of beef, resulting from the scarcity from all sources. The Queensland beef now being marketed is of excellent quality, and compares favorably, with the New Zealand beef hanging’ at Smithfield'. The New Zealand beef at present available comprises a large proportion of inferior qualify cow. Unfortunately while high prices of beef are chocking its consumption, they are not creating any marked increase in the demand for other classes of meat. Mutton, in particular, is neglected, and the position of this department of the trade is surprising, having regard to the reduced supplies this year, the high price of beef, and the full price of lambs. The lamb trade is experiencing the falling off in the demand which is customary at this time of tlio year, but the statistical position is quite sound, and no difficulty is being experienced in realising supplies,, except of the 421bs to 501bs grade, a range of weight which is, meanwhile, almost unsaleable.
