Mr. Asquith’s .amendments to the' local option clause provide for a twotliirds majority instead of a bare majority as a local veto power. After tho termination of tho time limit- yesterday, the debate on clause three showed that- the time. limit would be lengthened, but tho Government hesitate to announce to what extent. Redmond and Lord Talbot that the Government would be unable to give facilities in 1909 for any measure not wholly uncoiltrovorsial. They were prepared to fully consider any proposals to relieve Roman Catholics or .any other denomination of any disabilities causing a practical grievance,. Tbev would not give a day to discuss the Government’s action in reference to the Eucharistic procession, unless, the leader of tho Opposition asked for it.
