TRADES COUNCIL’S ATTITUDE. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Oct, 19. Considerable discussion took place at a meeting of tho Canterbury Trades and Labor Council on Saturday evening on a motion to support the Socialist candidates at the general election. Tho President ruled that the Council could not deal with the motion as the rules of the Council did not permit tho discussion of party politics. A motion that the President’s ruling should be disagreed witli was lost, and the, ruling was uphold by a large majority.

A great many Government servants throughout the Dominion arc most anxious that candidates for Parliament should pledge themselves to see that the Government servants in all branches should receive payment fortnightly instead of monthly as at present, They maintain that monthly payments to men with families in town in. particular cause them to seek credit from business people, and that often they pay over the current rates.
