NAPIER, Nov. 24

At the Magistrate’s Court to-day. ■a young man named Ernest Edward Mayes was charged with obtaining money by means of a valueless cheque. Mr. McCarthy, S.M., dismissed the information on the ground that there was no evidence to show that accused knew that the cheque was valueless'. The Magistrate took occasion to say that he thought enquiries should he made by the police how a large quantity of' liquor could be supplied at •x certain hotel to a mere boy like accused, not 17 years of age.
