A DUNEDIN FATALITY.
DEATH IN THE POLICE STATION

DUNEDIN. Dec. 9
Nolan Barnett, aged GG years, an inmate of tho benevolent institution, wandered away yesterday. He v.is picked up at night and made 'comfortable at the police station, but died earfy this morning. The evidence showed that he suffered from valvular disease of tho heart and dropsy. A verdict was returned accordingly.
CHARGE OF NEGLECT OF DUTY. INQUIRY ORDERED. In connection with the death of Nathan Barnett, who died in tho police cells early this morning, Bov. A. T. Chodowski (llibbi) appeared before tho benevolent trustees this morning and said that he thought the manager of the benevolent institution had not shown proper attention to bis duty in that he left the deceased in the police cells all night, as he must have known the dangerous nature of tho deceased’s complaint (heart trouble). ' . Mri Moo (manager of the institution) said that immediately tho deceased was missed four men were sent to search for him, but without avail. At 10.30 p.in. ho discussed the matter with the police and arranged that if Barnett was found at a later hour lie should he kept at the station, till the ■morning. This morning ho was advised that tho man was dead'. It was decided that Mr. Chodowski Jbe asked to make a formal complaint ami that tho matter ho thoroughly sifted.
