THE NEW MAGISTRATES.
Mr James Robert Kirk, who has just been appointed a Stipendiary Magistnate, is a New Zealander, having been born in Dunedin on December 12, 1878. He is, therefore, a few days over 30 years Ol age, and' is" the youngest Magistrate ever appointed in the Dominion. He had a successful scholastic career as a youth, which ended by his being dux of has school. He shortly afterwards matrieulated. lie studied law with. Messrs Duncan and MacGregor, solicitors, Dunedin, and became enrolled as ta -barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. He acquired the practice of Mr A. L. Hordman, ALP., and practised at Naseby, Central Otago, for nearly seven years. He ■was tw*iee Mayor of Naseby, and was a member of the Hospital Board, Hospital Trust, and Charitable Aid Board of Maniototo. He took a keen interest in sport, and was President of the New Zealand Curling Province, and of the Naseby Cricket and Football Clubs, and vice-presideut of the Agricultural aud Pastoral Association and Fanciers’ Club. He is also lan elder in the Presbyterian Church. About three months ago Air Kirk acquired the practice of Air AV. D. Lysnar, of Gisborne. -
Air • A\ 7 illiam Kerr is a member of tlie firm of Standisk and Kerr, barristers and solicitors of New Plymouth. He is Crown Prosecutor aud Crown solicitor at- New Plymouth, and has a large practice: Dike Mr Ivirk he at one time practised at Naseby.
