INSPECTION OF AIOUNTED RIFLES.

The East Coast Mounted Rifles, A Squadron, 4th Regiment, AA'eflington Mounted Rifles, paraded on Sa~ turday afternoon under Captain-"* Tomhleson, with Lieutenants Hellier

Evans and Hamilton, ‘for inspection by Alajor Russell, officer commanding the Regiment, who was accompanied by Captain and Adjutant Sandtmann. There wsus a good muster of the squadron, which paraded at “Netvstead” Alakaraka. A number of field movements were gone through, aud Alajor Russell expressed himself as well satisfied with the way the work was carried out. In the evening a dis-*uount-ed parade was held ill the Garrison Hall, when Alajor Russell handed the Long and Efficient Service Aledal to Pt. H. J. Cave, who has 16 real's continuous service as a volunteer. Pt. Cave was warmly congratulated by bis superior officer on earning the distinction. Yesterday a staff ride was held, when the officers inspected the East Coast to report in due course on how they would act in case of an attack by an enemy arriving by sea. Each officer was supplied" with imaginary •’secret intelligence'’ of the sighting of the enemy off the East Cape, and the officers will send their report to headquarters direct.
