CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES. The championship matches -were continued on Saturday afternoon in brilliant weather. United had a very easy win over _ Te Rau, who failed to save an innings defeat. Wanderers Avere victorious over Taruheru by" a substantial margin. UNITED V. TE RAU. Te Ran in their first venture made 52 to which United replied Avith 109. The effect of the heavy rains of the mid Aveek on the Avickets AA r as not apparent, a drying wind arid brilliant sunshine on Friday taking the moisture out of the .ground. The season has 'been piarked ibv brilliant batting, but yesterday’s performances in the senior grade eclipsed those of any previous day. No tless than four centuries were scored, E. Horspool (179), Brook-Smith (163), (not out), Relf 161, -not out), and Cummings (105) attaining the coveted honor. In addition five scores of 50 and over AAere made. The folloAving are the details of the senior grade matches:—Ponsonby v. Grafton.—Ponsonby, first innings, 163, Grafton, first innings, 291. Innings declared closed Avith nine Avickets doAvn (E. DUNEDIN, Dec. 20. Cricket matches AAere continued yesterday in splendid Aveatlier. Dunedin beat Carisbrook B on the Ist innings. The former made 261 (Eekihold 115), and 56 for 1 Avicket, Ca.-is-brook compiling 138 (Barren 41). GHinge defeated Albion by 18 Tims. The former made 37 and 162 (GhadAvick 50) and the latter 91 and 90. The Carisbrook A v. Opoho match ended in either a tie or aviii tor Carisbrook by one run, the formei made 152 in the first innings and the latter 65. . Opolio made 140 in the second innings, leaving Larisbrook 54 to win. The scoring book? do not tally, one crediting Cansbrook with 54 and the other Avith od.

There Avas fine weather and good Avicket for the intercolonial match, New South Wales gave South Australia a day’s leather hunting, the visitors losing one Avicket for 410: Hopkins (not out) 218, Bardsley 06, Noble (not out) 124. The Hopkins-Noble partnership yielded 283, botli playing brilliantly. The second ball received yesterday disposed of Hopkins.
