DUNEDIN, Dec. 22

In the Police Court yesterday afternoon Robert Rorbes pleaded not guilty to a charge that being master of the steamer Gowanburn he did permit Chinese to land without fulfilling the requirements of the Immigration Restriction Act, 1908. Defendant was fined £5 Is with costs £8 10s. A second charge was - withdrawn. If this Chinese is not captured the Company will be responsible for the payment of the poll tax. He left the ship at Lyttelton.
