AVANGANUI, Jan. 1. The annual- rifle , match between AV uiganui and the AYellington Highlanders took place to-day, the visitors winning by 854 to 805.

At the Trenthanpßifle range to-day the Wellington Defence . Rifle Clubs Association held its eighth annual shooting meeting. A “lislitail” wind prevailed..throughout the day. There were 54 entries, 42 rifle club members and 12 volunteers. There wore twelve rnen from as far north as Palmerson North on the one line and Masterton on the other. The grand aggregate prize was won by G. Holliday, of the Ivarori Rifle Club, with a t-oral of 244, his club mate, H. Marshall, being second with 240. The Kola pore Cup -aggregate (all scores -at ranges between 200 and 600 yds) was won by Corporal H. C. Jones, of the Post and Telegraph Rifles, with 182 in the senior competition, while in the lyro class the aggregate prize for those ranges fell to Private Routley, of the Hut-t A r -alley Rifles, his score being 168. The silver cup. valued at £SO. present-eel by the licensee! victuallers of AYellington for the highest grand aggregate scored in the Karori and Petone matches-., was also won by Cornoral Jones of the Post and Telegraph Rifles, with an aggregate of 427. The teams match, ‘ for which there were three entries, was which there were three entries, .was won by the Opaki Rifle Club, witli an aggregate of 1131, the Petone Club being second with 1076, and Karori third with 1054.
