DEATH OF,FATHER JOHN OF CRONSTADT. United Press Association. Copyright ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 3. Father John of Cronstadt is dead. [Father John of Cronstadt Avas one of the most remarkable figures in the history of the Russian Church. He Avas bom at Sura, Archangel, in 1829, was ordained in 1855, and attached to the Cathedral of St. Andrew at Cronstadt. He was for 35 years religious instructor .at the Oronstadt Municipal School. In 1881 he founded an Industrial Home. He Avas regarded throughout -Russia with intense veneration on account of the loftiness and purity of liis character. In many quarters he Avas-virtually - canonised, and it has been stated •that he was even credited with the poAver of being able to perform miracles. His benediction Avas sought by Russians of all classes, and during the contest with japan the-unfortu-nate Admiral Makaroff publicly- received the blessing of Father John before starting for the war, in .which he lost his life. Father John’s full name Avas Joann Ilich-Sergiev.]
