They swept many ousands of acres, .and now have a pontage of 25 miles. Destructive outbreaks are reported from the Cowra and Oootamundra districtsJn Cowra the fire has a front 16 miles wide. The heat is intense in the country, and many registers of over one hundred degrees have been recorded. At Wiloannia the' mercury touched 115 degrees. SYDNEY, Jan. 4. Only on five other occasions in 50 years lias Sydney experienced heat like yesterday. The heat at Bourko was the greatest for thirty years.

Hot weather still prevails in the country districts.
A great fire being threatened at Nowra, the townspeople turned out and succeeded in saving the town., but the country round about w'as devastated.
