BILLIARDS.

ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Entries -are now being received by the proprietors of the Victoria Billiard Saloon for the third annual billiard championship of Gisborne, and will close on the 30th inst. The trophy this year is a massive silver cup, pre--sented by the proprietors, and specially imported by Air H. J. Grieve. The cup is a most valuable one of solid silver, and stands about eighteen inches high.- mounted on a black stand and nicely engraved. It is for competition annually,the winner holding the enp from year to year. This year’s competition will commence early next month, and each competitor plays everv other competitor in the tournament. The cup is at present on view in the window of Messrs Shierlaw and Co.’s establishment. The 1907 championship was won by Mr. Mtin.ro Pere, who was undefeated, and last year Mr. E. Austen was successful. The winner of this year’s championship will play Mr Austen for the title and the temporary possession of the trophy. A gold medal will also be presented to the winner by the proprietors of the saloon. Further rules for the conduct, of the competition will he drawn up at a meeting of the competitors to he held immediately after the close of the nominations. j*
