Couch, the Newmarket horsetrainer, who killed himself, committed suicide under the name of Matthews, which was supposed to he his real, name, he being a Corni&hman. He fired thrice with a revolver, standing before a mirror, at. the hotel. The " third shot penetrated his Brain. A Newmarket dinner was proceeding in the room below, but the shots were not heard. Couch was very excitable, and was disappointed at the non-suc-cess of his racehorse, Mercntio, which he expected to win the Derby and other big events.
