The Labor Council protests against the Federal Government letting a contract to construct destroyers in England while every facility for carrying out the work already exists in the Commonwealth. WRECK OF THE AEON SOLD. The wreck of the Aeon was sold at San Francisco ’to Sydney buyers. It is likely -a small salvage company will be formed.
A FRENCH POET MURDERED
PARIS, Feb. 11
The mutilated body of Gatulle Mendes, the French poet, has been discovered in a tunnel close to St. Germain, Paris. The suggested motive for the outrage is robbery. Catullo Mendcs, who was 68 years old, was born at Bordeaux. When 18 years of age he founded “La Revue Fautaisistc.” He published many erotic novels and romances and plays, and the best known of his poems are “Philomela” and “.Hesperus.”
